01Information we collect
When you book an appointment or contact us, we collect your name, phone number, email address, and the location where the notarial act will take place. We also record details about the document being notarized — act type, number of acts, and signer names — as required by Kentucky notary law to be entered in our official journal.
02How we use your information
Your contact information is used solely to schedule and confirm your appointment, communicate with you about your notarization, and provide a receipt. Document and signer details are recorded in our tamper-evident notary journal as required by law — this is not optional and cannot be withheld.
03Document confidentiality
We understand that notarized documents are often sensitive — powers of attorney, estate plans, medical directives, and financial instruments. Your notary views only what is necessary to perform the notarial act and does not retain copies of your documents. The journal records a description of the document (e.g., "Durable Power of Attorney"), not its contents.
04What we don't do
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing. We do not store payment card numbers — card transactions are processed securely on-site and the card data never resides on our systems. We do not provide legal advice or legal opinions on the contents of your documents.
05Data retention
Notary journal entries are retained permanently or for the period required by Kentucky law, whichever is longer. Booking-related contact information (name, phone, email) is retained for appointment coordination and record-keeping. You may request deletion of non-journal contact data at any time by contacting us.
06Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal contact data held outside the notary journal. Journal entries are governed by notary law and cannot be altered or deleted. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@notarylou.com or 502-509-5027.
07Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. The notary journal is physically secured, and digital communications use standard encryption. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
08Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
